Just A Hallelujah Away

This song was designed for public worship - there’s a lot of racket going on, but all apart of the praise.

I wrote this song last year during a time when I was in the bad habit of watching the news right before I went to bed. I’d often awake the next morning with a grey cloud in my head. Sometimes I would carry this angst with me throughout the day. Even when I’d purge my mind of the worries of the world in my quiet times with God, it wasn’t long before it would be undone with another nighttime news binge.

It sounds overly simplified, but by replacing the bad news of the world with the Good News of Christ before bed changed everything - it caused me to dwell on the richness of His love and provision. I mean, consider the contrast of letting the last thing your eyes see before they close at night: “Eight Homicides Over Chicago Weekend” OR “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10

Wow!! Its amazing to me how close we are to either anxiety or comfort despite the circumstance. It seems odd that two opposite forces can live so closely within the same place - the sanctuary of our mind. The line is so fine that if we would just nudge our heart off to one side, we would instead of falling into despair, fall into His grace. And there we would find rest. We are always just a hallelujah away form praise!

Just A Hallelujah Away

[Vrs 1]

Spent all my life digging for gold But it was a grave When all along a treasure Was standing right in front of me

I was just a Hallelujah away I was just a Hallelujah away

[Vrs 2]

Now I’m walking with my Savior In the sun and the rain And I’m finding when I’m stranded Between the praise and the pain

I’m just a Hallelujah away I’m just a Hallelujah away From praise!

[Vrs 3]

Well I don’t know where you’ve been I don’t know what you’re going through But I’ve tasted and I’ve seen God’s promises And I can tell you

You’re just a Hallelujah away You’re just a Hallelujah away From praise!

[Chorus]

Praise to Him who has set us free Praise Him for love’s victory Praise for sin’s broken chains released Hallelujah!

Praise to to Him who has paid our debt Torn the veil and calls us friends Praise for His great faithfulness Hallelujah!

[Vrs 4]

Oh this world is getting colder And its hard to see the finish line But Jesus said He’d be here In the twinkling of an eye

We’re just a Hallelujah away We’re just a Hallelujah away From praise!

[Repeat Chorus]
